Meet Thomas Ward

Thomas is 20 years old and has worked at Canine to Five for a year and a half. "Even though Canine to Five is my first job, I can't imagine a better place to work!" he says. Part of the reason Thomas loves Canine to Five so much is because he can spend the day with his six month old Pitt Bull-English Bull Dog mix, Enzo.

Even though Thomas is a huge fan of dogs, he is no stranger to other wild and domestic creatures. Thomas's father was a curator at the Detroit Zoo, so he's been around snakes, frogs, fish and crayfish since childhood.

Thomas is extremely interactive with the dogs at Canine to Five and loves observing them. "They act entirely different than humans do and it is fun to play with the dogs in the outdoor area and watch them react to birds and street noises," he says.

Other than dogs and wild animals, Thomas is very interested in the auto industry, calling himself "obsessed with the history, workings and racing of truly great automobiles."

Stop by Canine to Five this week and say hi to Thomas and Enzo. And, if you have a fancy car, let Thomas take a look.

Some of our current puppy program dogs

The Canine To Five Every Day Puppy Program

Canine to Five is pleased to present our PUPPY PROGRAM, designed to help your puppy grow into a well-behaved, well -loved and fun dog!

BENEFITS:
Early socialization is the key to a good natured adult dog! We will work with your dog on basic manners, such as sit, stay and wait, as well as potty training, mostly by giving him or her praise. In order to be truly effective, it is very important that all of these behaviors are reinforced at home.

REQUIREMENTS:
This program is for puppies under 6 months, and they can start as young as 12 weeks, as long as they have received their first two set of shots as well as their Bordetella vaccination. Be sure to tell your vet at your first checkup that your dog will be spending a lot of time around other dogs.

SCHEDULE:
The program is offered Monday – Friday. You can drop your dog off as early as 6:45 a.m., and you can pick your dog up as late as 7:30 p.m.

FOOD:
We recommend that you bring your puppy lunch. If it is easier for you, you can send a week’s worth of food on Monday and we will store it to feed your puppy lunch each day. Your puppy will have access to fresh cold water at all times. Your puppy also may be given treats throughout the day, which we provide. Please be sure to let us know about any food allergies or sensitivities.

COST:
The cost for our program is $50 per week. You can come as little as one day or up to 5 days per week for the flat fee of $50. Obviously, your best deal is to bring your puppy every day Monday through Friday. (Not only is this financially advantageous, but it is great socialization for your puppy.)

DESCRIPTION:
Your puppy will spend most of his/her time in the beginning in the small dog area. He/she will have the chance to get used to our staff, our facility, and the sounds and smells of other dogs. As he/she grows in size, we will occasionally let him/her into the playroom with the bigger dogs, under close supervision, and only if he/she feels comfortable. Time with adult dogs is very important to proper puppy socialization. The adults help to establish boundaries and show the puppy how to interact within the pack.
