Here are the TOP TEN REASONS I bring Bunny and Argon to Dog Daycare!
1) Socialization - I know since they are around dogs all day at daycare they'll be nice to dogs we meet on the street, at the park, at picnics, etc.
2) No Morning Walking! - We don't have a yard at out house in Eastern Market, so the dogs have to be walked every day. On days that I bring them to daycare I do not even have to walk them in the morning, we just hop in the car and they do their business when we get here!
3) No Evening Walking! - Again, with the walking. On daycare days, by the time we get home they are SO wiped out they do not need an evening walk, just one last potty break before bedtime.
4) Photos - I love photos of my dogs, and my out of town friends and family members love to see the photos that the daycare workers take each day.
5) Exercise and weight control - with such large, lazy breeds, it would be pretty easy for Argon and Bunny to pack on the pounds. I am confident that the exercise they get at daycare a few days a week keeps them fit and trim.
6) The End of Day Wipe down and Brush-out - 2 hairy dogs mean a LOT of shedding at home. Every day at daycare, at the end of the day, the daycare staff wipe down, brush out, and spray each daycare dog with good-smell. It's nice for me to be able to pick up a good smelling dog!
7) Accepting Strangers - my dogs have met all sorts of people since they started coming here, as we have a bunch of different folks that work in the daycare and grooming rooms. This way, they have gotten used to being greeted and touched by unfamiliar people, and it makes me comfortable that they will greet others outside of the facility the same way!
8) Curbing Destructive Behaviors at home - Bunny really enjoys to chew on rugs and shoes, and Argon is all about eating the firewood out of the wood pile. So bringing them to daycare means they are not at home munching on things they should not, and when we get home from daycare they are too tired to do anything but lounge!
9) Training - Our daycare attendees reinforce basic training techniques, so my dogs are constantly reminded how to sit, stay and patiently wait for a treat.
10) Grooming - Maybe once a month, after a full day of play, I treat the dogs - OK, who am I kidding - I treat MYSELF! - to a bath and brush for the dogs. Nothing like relaxing at the end of the day with 2 tired, shiny, silky dogs!

We take our dogs to Canine to Five because they love it there! Dogs are pack animals. They love hanging out with all of their dog buddies there. Plus, it wears them out and socializes them. You can definitely tell which dogs are used to being around other dogs when they meet out on the street. Socialization is hugely important for dogs. Plus, they have kennel free boarding there. We can go out of town and not have to worry because they get to play all day! Fritz and Dudley love Canine to Five!!
I drive 1.1 miles to work, but I drive 21.7 miles to take my dog to daycare at Canine to Five because IT IS WORTH EVERY EXTRA MILE (and the extra hour it takes in traffic). Daycare really is a great way to socalize your dog and it totally wipes them out! Evenings when Zuma has been at daycare are the best....we all cuddle on the couch! Daycare has helped us raise our puppy to love other dogs and humans and, most importantly, be comfortable in different environments.
Although I am a student and struggle to make ends meet, I make sure to save a little extra to take Squirt to daycare as much as we can. He LOVES going and always falls asleep in the car on the way home. He especially loves boarding and gets especially excited to see Carole who he loves because he gets to sleep in the big bed :) Thanks again Canine to Five !

I drive my three dogs downtown from Waterford before work because they LOVE it. Just the words CANINE TO FIVE is enough to trigger great rejoicing throughout the house. They bounce off the walls like popcorn with cries of excitement while I get dressed. The trio sings choruses praising my name and marveling at the wisdom of my decision making. They can not believe their good fortune.
They take off for new adventures and to join their buddies when we arrive, leaving me alone at the gate. But they are waiting for me when I come back to pick them up. All three are asleep before we reach the freeway. And Ohhh, the dreams they must have because they snort and twitch in their sleep - little Oprah especially seems to be telling somebody off. I can see the differences in them since they started attending - more relaxed around people and other dogs. We all wish we could go every day.

Canine to Five changed our lives. As busy professionals, we work long hours. But we love our little Sampson and Sheila, and wanted to make sure we give them all we can. On the recommendation of a friend who worked for the DSO, I checked out Canine to Five, and have never looked back. On days we know we will be working longer, Canine to Five is there for us, and them. The staff know them by name (and bark). When we go out of town, I enjoy myself without worrying about the safety of my dog-babies. Liz, her staff and her business are assets to our community.
Unfortunately the socialization aspect can backfire. My dog has been coming to Canine to Five since he was 5 months old and he is a total beast to any new dog he meets either out walking or at the dog park. It gets embarrassing sometimes. He seems to have to assert himself which is certainly behavior he has learned at day care in "the arena" with so many other dogs. Anyone got any ideas about how to stop that behavior?
